Payne Whitney Women's Program

The Payne Whitney Women's Program in the Department of Psychiatry at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center was established in 2002 to provide comprehensive care for mental health concerns that are unique to women. Areas of focus include pregnancy and postpartum, pregnancy loss and infertility, premenstrual mood disorders, and menopause. The Program offers state-of-the-art consultation and a variety of treatment options. The program also provides educational opprotunities for healthcare professionals.

Recent studies have shown that women are twice as likely as men to experience anxiety or depression during their life, particularly during times of hormonal changes. Some women may experience a new onset of symptoms associated with pregnancy or menopause, while others with a history of mental health problems will be at increased risk of relapse. These reproductive milestones present an opportunity for comprehensive evaluation, support and treatment.
